How To Adapt Your Skincare Routine for Summer
Heatwave incoming.
Technically it’s still spring, but the UK is very clearly ignoring that fact. We’re on the precipice of the year’s first proper heatwave, fortuitously timed with the Bank Holiday weekend, and temperatures are set to tip towards 30 degrees. Which felt like the appropriate time to publish a summer skincare guide, equivalent to the winter one I wrote six months ago.
Much like winter skin, summer skin has its tell-tale signs. Makeup sliding off by mid-morning. A resurgence in hyperpigmentation or redness. A bit more congestion around the T-zone. Or paradoxically, patches of dehydration sitting alongside increased oil production. This isn’t your skin “misbehaving.” It’s reacting to heat, humidity, increased UV exposure, and the sudden shift in how we live day-to-day (less layering, more SPF, more sweating, more time outdoors). And just like winter, summer demands its own kind of routine adjustment if you want your skin to stay calm, clear, and comfortable.
So here’s my advice for tweaking your skincare routine as we head into proper summer conditions (however short-lived they may be).
